Carrick-On-Shannon
is a gateway to some of the best cruising routes and spectacular scenery
in Ireland and the waterways of the Shannon, the Boyle, the new Shannon-Erne
canal, Lough Key and Lough Allen are perfect for both experienced and
novice cruisers alike. There are many picturesque villages en route for
you to discover, all providing easy moorings, great pubs and a warm welcome.
A short cruise brings you to Leitrim and the lock which controls access to the new Shannon-Erne waterway, which you can follow northwards to the villages of Ballinamore and Ballyconnell. Or, maybe you’ll prefer to navigate the River Boyle to Lough Key Forest Park and the nearby 12th century Cistercian Abbey and recently restored 17th century King Town House in Boyle.
A fairyland of meandering rivers and lakes awaits you as the Shannon intensifies in its slow progress to the South. Cruise with ease to Carnadoe, Jamestown, Kilglass and Dromod, following riverbanks rich with wildlife and savouring the stunning scenery that surrounds you.
